CRITERIA | Download Submission Requirements
Entries will be evaluated by the Jurors for architectural excellence based on the following primary considerations:

  • The work must exemplify architectural uniqueness through a thoughtful interpretation of the region's rich cultural heritage.
  • The work should draw inspiration from the regional context, while demonstrating creative sensitivity to climate, site, geology, vegetation and unique quality of light.
  • Architectural solutions must demonstrate appropriate and artistic responses to the challenges and opportunities provided by the client, program, users, and the budget.
  • Projects must demonstrate the innovative utilization of available materials and technology, and adhere carefully to established principles and best practices for achieving sustainability.

ENTRY FEE
$50.00 for the first submittal and $40 for each additional submittal. Make checks payable to the Thornburg Charitable Foundation, and sent to the address below, along with the Project Identification Form.

SUBMISSION DELIVERY & DEADLINE
All completed entries (i.e., Project Identification Form, CD, Display Board, Release Form & Waiver) must be received
no later than 4:30 PM, Thursday, January 26, 2012

ENTRANT ELIGIBILITY
Must be an active or retired architect registered in the state of New Mexico.

PROJECT ELIGIBILITY
The Jeff Harnar Award for Contemporary Architecture will be awarded to an architect/firm for a singular work of architecture that has been built in New Mexico and completed since January 1, 2006. The work must be for a permanent, rather than temporary or moveable, construction.

Projects having received awards not associated with the Jeff Harnar Award may be entered. There is no limit to the number of entries per firm or architect.

All joint ventures and associations must be clearly identified on the Project Identification Form as well as a listing of contributing architects/designers and all other major participants contributing to the design of the project.

Architects are encouraged to re-enter projects if they did not previously receive the Jeff Harnar Award. (Projects that have received the Jeff Harnar Award in a previous year are not eligible for a subsequent award.) .

NOTIFICATION and ANNOUCEMENT OF WINNER:
Finalists will be notified no later than February 20. An awards presentation and celebration is planned for the evening of February 24 at the Pearl Hall Gallery and Auditorium, located on the UNM Campus. The Display Boards of the winning entry and other submissions will be exhibited at this time. The sponsors of the Jeff Harnar Award Program will make every effort to protect submission CDs and Boards, but are not responsible for loss or damage.

RELEASE OF WAIVER
By submitting an entry, entrants take full responsibility for the accuracy of all the information submitted and warrant that all the necessary permission has been obtained from others who may have rights to the work presented. Entrants further acknowledge that no royalty or compensation is due anyone, holds the sponsors of the Jeff Harnar Award for Contemporary Architecture harmless from all liability and grant the Jeff Harnar Award for Contemporary Architecture the nonexclusive rights to publish, reproduce and distribute copies of the original work.
